Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Quango.When the poet Juvenal asked "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?" the answer he was looking for was probably not "Quango". It's bad enough that Parliament should find itself devoid of moral authority at a time like this, Speaker or no Speaker, but then for an equally bankrupt Prime Minister to suggest that MPs should be accountable to an unelected quango for their expenses is worse than laughable - it stands parliamentary democracy on its head. The government should be accountable to parliament. The parliament should be accountable to the people. It's really not that complicated. The Augean Stables are in need of a good clean. We need an election now.
