Cameron expels errant donor
High profile Conservative Party Stewart Wheeler has been expelled from the Party after giving £100,000 to UKIP. David Cameron's hand was effectively forced by the online betting tycoon, who has been as liberal with his commentary as he has with his cash for several years. Nevertheless Stewart Wheeler can have no complaints, and in fairness he has expressed none as to his treatment in recent days. As far as the Conservatives' policy on Europe is concerned, he is less reticent.
Although this recent row is unlikely to deflect David Cameron from his chosen path, it does illustrate that tensions within the Conservative Party on Europe have not gone away. And this remains true in spite of Cameron's efforts to portray a relatively Eurosceptic image, as demonstrated by the Tories' withdrawal from the European People's Party in the European Parliament.
There is still a ticking bomb at the heart of the Conservative Party.
