The joy of by-elections

As the New Party enters its first campaign alongside twenty-five other candidates, it would be churlish of us not to recognise the sporting gesture of the Labour Party in giving us a clear run in Haltemprice and Howden.

This, following hard on from their generous efforts to bump along with the minor parties at Henley, where they came in fifth. just behind the British National Party and just ahead of UKIP, with a stonking three percent of the vote.

And now Iain Dale reports that another by-election is likely in Glasgow East where the sitting Labour MP is likely to stand down due to ill-health (sincere good wishes to Dvaid Marshall).  Only a 22% swing for the SNP to snatch the seat from Labour.  We wonder what surprises Gordon Brown's team will have in store for us this time.
